She scorned the whole idea of romance. Leon Petrou was a man with no need for love. He used women merely to satisfy his own desires. One thing I have noticed about Anne Hampson's novels is that she has writes about more than romance between two people. I also enjoy the setting of her stories This one is set in Cyprus and I had fun doing research in terms of the geography - picturing the places that Helen and Leon Petrou visited or passed through.

It makes the book more "real" to me. The story has a happy ending as always , but getting there was quite interesting. All mean and handsy. The H gets dumped by the h when she's 17 to his He gets all nasty, freaks her out leaving her with bruises and tells her if he ever gets the chance at revenge Well, he does of course.

Leaf in the Storm

I had to look it up. I wasn't getting the shock value as it was ;D. Instead of prose I love AH's dominant Greek heroes. Instead of prosecuting the actual criminal, he sees his opportunity to punish the h instead for her brother's crime and for breaking his heart. Of course Shani decides she loves him after an idyllic 2-week hands-off vacay, and an enforced stay at his villa for one night with total off-screen sex.

D Then, as Andreas informs us with an amazing amount of sobriety, "By some miracle I saw you in the headlights, there by the tree that had saved your life -- it had halted your fall. Long groveling scene by both ensues "And the time when Don't waste your time. The writing was rambling and aimless, as if the rough draft was published. Not to mention that this one could have been 50 pages, easy. I haven't given up on Hampson yet, but I'm plucky that way.

Secondly, the title? This is about an H who falls in love at first sight with the heroine and forces her to marry him. When she runs away before they can consummate their marriage, he decides to give her a chance to grow up before pursuing her. When they do meet again, five years later she's a nurse working in Cyprus and he's the new surgeon at the hospital.

So waves of fire?

Maybe First of all, the heroine on this cover doesn't match the very young heroine that was described in the story, imo. Maybe it's supposed to evoke the intermittent passion that springs up between them? And intermittent is the way to describe this story. I did enjoy the travelogue, however. The scene where they read the ancient tablets that are notes of gratitude to the healers was surprisingly moving and appropriate for a doctor and nurse.

I had to take off a star for this plot point: The heroine should have cut it off with OM as soon as she saw what a temper he had, but she was pretty clueless about men. Dec 03, Naksed marked it as couldnt-get-past-the-sample. Not only did heroine's dad show up at the hospital drunk, almost kill someone with the wrong prescription, and then, with not even a speck of remorse, try to deflect the hero's accusations by saying he could never prove it, but he actually was planning to blame a poor, random nurse for his criminal negligencev even though his own daughter is a nurse!

And his daughter, the heroine, has the NERVE to hate the hero, judge him for his barbarian ways, and jilt him despite her promise to wed him. He is Greek, which apparently overrides all considerations that he could possibly be a civilised human being, even taking into account the fact that he is a world renown brain surgeon. She also strings along a jerky OM who she wants to get married to even though she is already married, has not told OM this, and has not lifted a finger to terminate her marriage. I could not read an entire novel of the hero hopelessly running after this morally bankrupt airhead. Aug 13, Megzy rated it really liked it.

I love that he waited and gave her time to grow up. Long story short she is in love with boss but boss is engaged to another and so she goes off an vacation to Africa to get over it and try to move on.

Major problem here is that she wants to keep her job and thinks she loves him all thought out the book almost. The scene by the water made it worth the read for me. He loves her and tell her he wants to marry her almost right away and he was so eaten by jealousy it was obvious.

Get a clue girl. Would have loved some lovemaking here. On another note it's cute how they refer to kissing and touching as lovemaking. Ah simpler times. Feb 04, Jenn - Reviews rated it liked it.

She constantly referred to the hero as the Greek or the pagan! He was painted almost throughout the entire book as a monster and then at the end the heroine falls in love with him rather easily. The references to the ancient Greek sites and stories behind them were very interesting but at times went on for many pages at a time and not relevant to the story.

This is an older 3 Stars This was a rather long novel and I felt the author sometimes rambled on to the extent that I began skipping pages.

This is an older HP , and you can really tell! The author did make it interesting enough for me to keep reading and want to know what would happen and how it would all end. Now let me summarize what the issue with the book is What Andreas does -Falls in love with Shani instantly -Respects her choice to wait for consummation -Gives her time to grow up even when she runs away -Begs for her to give their marriage a chance and grow up What Shani does -Runs away without giving her marriage a thought -Doesn't contact her husband despite knowing his worry -Cheats on him with a shameless flirt Brian- ev "Waves of fire" is the story of Andreas and Shani, and is a second chance oldie.

He cries, pleads, and goes into grief asking the exasperating h to give their marriage a try- but she is sooo immature. There's a point where the h starts having feelings for the H- but still doesn't tell the OM. That being said, the couple gets over their trauma in blink of an eye, book over, no epilogue. For me, it was still a wonderful passionate story and withstood the test of time. View 1 comment. Sep 08, MaryD rated it it was ok Shelves: I'm not sure why since I agree with those reviews, but somehow this book made me very uncomfortable. He was already determined that the marriage would be consummated no matter whether she agreed or not.

Aug 19, Mary-jane rated it really liked it Shelves: I love books that are able to stir an emotion but that was rather short-lived. This book had much more potential since the plot was near perfect but the author should have lengthen on the Shani-andreas relationship.

Jan 20, Pink Angel rated it it was amazing.

I can only say I truly loved it from the very beginning to the very end. Loved hero very much. The story was very strong and perfectly written and emotions were truly touchable.

Truly Loved It.
